Australian Shepherd Club of Arizona 33rd Annual Silver Specialty & Working Trial

Aussie Rescue in AZ is having a raffle!!!
Due to the generosity of the Australian Shepherd Club of Arizona, Aussie Rescue in AZ has a wonderful opportunity to raffle off some GREAT prizes to help save many of the unwanted/discarded Aussies in Arizona!
Over the years (and there have been many) Alice has prepared for this event by herself. This year, due to serious health issues, without the help of friends and foster homes, she would not have been able to take advantage of this opportunity. In the past, Alice had worked tirelessly to solicit donations to make these raffles profitable, ensuring the necessary medical care required to make each and every Aussie adoptable. This year (due to her illness), time was not available. Many donated items were from friends and family realizing the importance of monies needed to help the Aussies, but most were at a cost directly to Alice and Richard.
Preparing for a raffle is no small task...but having help certainly makes it easier. On Saturday, November 12, 2005, Alice had a "working party" to get things going. In attendance: Alice & Richard (founders of Aussies Rescue in AZ); Jocelyn; Christa and Cyndi (AussieLads Lethal White Aussie Rescue). We were very eager to work because Alice supplied some great "munchies"! Just to make sure that everyone got a chance to work and eat, we switched partners throughout the night. Those that were working...and those that were eating. :-) All the doggies were eager to help too, especially Bud, who somehow managed to steal a treat out of one of the baskets even though we were all watching him :-) And a special thanks to Christa for taking time to do some shopping when we realized that we did NOT have enough baskets to put all the great raffle items in.
Here are some pics of the working party...from start to finish! While we got a lot of work done, we all had a great time (being silly)...and hope to help Alice again next time! By the way, we don't have pics of the really great prizes...you'll just have to show up and buy tickets :-)
Saturday, November 26, 2005 was the day for the big raffle. A tremendous amount of work went into pulling it off...starting with hitting the road at 5:30 a.m. Arriving at Western Saddle Club in Phoenix by 6:30, we began setting up. On board at that ungodly hour was Alice, Richard, Betty Jo (Alice's Mom), Gilbert (Betty Jo's beau) along with me (Cyndi) and Dave (hubby). Dogs in tow were Bud (available for adoption through Aussie Rescue in AZ), Lucy (Alice's baby) and Mojo (available for adoption through AussieLads). Although Mojo loved being there, he was a little too excited and decided he should go back home with Dave. :-) Joined later that morning by Amber (foster home) and Christa (Foster Home Coordinator), Christa's son Bryce (who walked Bud until he was all tired out), Jim & Nora (potential foster home), there were plenty of us on board to sell tickets and talk to the public (I was busy taking pictures). Although the "profits" weren't what we hoped for, a good time was had by all!
Enjoy some great pictures of the raffle event!
A special thanks to The Australian Club of Arizona for allowing Aussie Rescue in AZ to hold the raffle at their Sliver Specialty Event. At the end of the event, Misty Havens (General Secretary) presented Alice with an award for her 11 years of service...taking care of all the unwanted/discarded Aussies in Arizona!
